Claim Types We Handle in Florida

Insurance companies do not argue about your damage. They argue about how it is classified. Find the page that matches your loss and you will see exactly which line the carrier is going to draw, and what it takes to hold the other side of it.

Adjusterman is a Florida-licensed public adjusting firm working for policyholders only, never for carriers. Below are the 19 claim types we handle most, grouped four ways: by the peril that caused the loss, by the kind of property that was damaged, by vessel or vehicle, and by the sheer size of the loss. Most claims sit in more than one group, which is fine. Start with whichever page reads closest to your situation.

By what happened

The peril is what your policy actually argues about. Carriers separate wind from flood, sudden discharge from long-term seepage, and mold from the water that caused it, because each split moves money. These pages cover how the distinction is drawn and what it takes to document your side of it.

By what was damaged

A four-plex, a strip mall and a condo association are three different claims even under the same storm: different policy forms, different loss-of-use and loss-of-rents provisions, and different people entitled to the money. Find the page that matches the building you own or manage.

Vessels and vehicles

Hull, cargo and high-value auto policies are written nothing like a property policy — agreed value versus actual cash value, survey requirements, and total-loss thresholds all work differently. These are handled separately for that reason.

By the size of the loss

Past a certain number a claim stops being an adjustment and becomes a negotiation with an engineer, an accountant and a carrier large-loss unit on the other side. If your loss is in that range, or your business stopped earning, start here.

Not sure which one is yours?

You do not have to classify your own loss before you call. That is the part carriers get paid to get wrong in their favor, and it is the part a public adjuster is licensed to argue. Tell us what happened, what it happened to, and roughly when, and we will tell you which coverages are actually in play.

If your property is outside Broward, we work statewide. See Florida service areas for your county and city, or read how the claim process runs from first inspection to settlement.

Common Questions

Choosing the right claim type

What if my loss does not match any of these pages?

Start a claim anyway and describe what happened. These pages cover the losses we handle most often, not the only ones we take. Vandalism, theft, impact, collapse and sinkhole losses come through regularly and are handled the same way, they just do not have a dedicated page yet.

My damage has more than one cause. Which page applies?

Pick the one that best describes what started it and mention the rest when you call. Multi-cause losses are normal and they are usually where the money is: a hurricane that opens a roof, water that runs for a week, and mold that follows is one event to you and three coverage arguments to the carrier. Splitting those correctly is the work.

Do you handle both residential and commercial claims?

Yes. Adjusterman represents individual homeowners, condo and homeowner associations, landlords and multifamily owners, and commercial owners across hotels, offices, retail centers and industrial buildings. The policy forms and the loss-of-income provisions differ by property type, which is why they are separated above.

Does hiring a public adjuster cost anything up front?

No. Adjusterman works on a contingency fee, so there is no upfront cost and no fee unless there is a recovery on your claim. Your fee is stated in the contract before you sign anything, and Florida law caps what any public adjuster may charge.
